About Camp JD

Camp JD was founded in 1959 by John Dyrczon, my wife Anne’s father. Since that time it has grown into a marina with covered & open stalls. There are 9 camps situated on the north end of Nighthawk Lake at the mouth of the Fredrick house river. We also have plenty of unserviced parking spots for RVs or tenters. We are located on Hwy 101 east approx. 25km from Matheson Ont. & approx. 30 km. east of Timmins Ont.

At Camp JD you can enjoy fishing on Nighthawk Lake or the Frederickhouse river. Fish in these waters include Pike, Pickerel, White fish & Sager. You can use your boat or fish right off of shore.

It is not uncommon to view wildlife right at the camp. It is also a resting point for migratory birds such as ducks, geese, herons & cranes.

Camp JD is also a established Black Bear outfitter. We offer fully guided hunts over active bait sites beginning on or about Aug. 15. We operate our hunts on over 417 sq.km. of crown land. & other available private lands. We attempt to make your hunt one of your most memorable, after all you are on a vacation. Since 2005 we have enjoyed a 100% success rate. You choose your style & range of shot. We offer ground or tree stands & with a little advance planning we can set your stand at a shooting range that you are comfortable with. So you hunt with your choice of weapon , be it a rifle, black powder or bow. When you get your bear we also will help with the retrieval as well as skinning services are available. We can also help to set you up with a taxidermist for further processing of your trophy.

Bear hunting packages are available on a first come first serve basis. In other words as soon as your deposit is in you are booked for the dates that you request. In this way we keep each week of our hunts smaller groups so that you get personal attention & service from our staff.

In our Black Bear hunt packages you will receive the following, A cabin with 2 or more beds complete with cooking appliances, dishes,fridge & running water. There is a shower house complete with a wood fired sauna & clean outdoor facilities. Guiding to & from an active bait site,retrieval assistance if required, as well as skinning & freezing of your hide & meat.

If you do not require a cabin and want to bring your RV not a problem. Call for a special rate.
